As a Project Specialist with High Plains, Brennan DeBoer’s work on historic buildings is rooted in a care for small town main streets and communities. Brennan studied writing at the University of Montana with an interest in rural history, but soon after graduation transitioned from writing about old buildings to working on them. With a background in construction and traditional trades, he has worked on diverse projects such as the architectural woodwork of the Montana State Capitol, the restoration of historic pipe organs across Kansas and Nebraska, and traditional mortar workshops for stonemasons and architects. Since transitioning from construction to architecture, he has specialized in working with rural communities across the great plains, with particular experience on historic county courthouses and churches.
As a preservationist, Brennan is influenced by agrarian principles such as resistance to urban sprawl, connection to place, and local economics. As a designer he is driven to a create a built environment his kids want to both inhabit and protect.
