Highway 3 Residence

Description

An ordinary 1990s suburban-style house set amongst a copse of ponderosa pines was re-imagined as a high plains villa outside of Billings. Its small collection of buildings define outdoor rooms, its living spaces spill out onto a deck with prospect of sandstone cliffs, and its tower offers expansive views of the plains in every direction. Superinsulation of the building envelope, a ground source heat pump, and a solar photovoltaic array allow the house to approach net zero energy. The design utilized the buildings’ existing footprints to complete transform the property.
