DESCRIPTION

The historic Crowley Block in Lewistown, Montana, has been transformed from a long-vacant 1913 building into a vibrant center for healthcare and housing. High Plains Architects partnered with One Health and Homeword to rehabilitate the 29,800 SF historic structure, creating a 16,000 SF primary care clinic on the lower floors and sixteen affordable apartments on the upper levels. The project restores the Crowley Block as an active anchor in downtown Lewistown while preserving its historic character and enhancing its energy performance.

Designed to meet the rigorous standards of multiple funding programs—including Historic, Low-Income Housing, and New Markets Tax Credits—the project integrates daylight-filled healthcare spaces, efficient building systems, and modern accessibility while maintaining original features like the pressed-metal ceilings and maple floors. The revitalized Crowley Block now provides essential healthcare and housing in a single, community-centered facility, embodying the power of adaptive reuse to reinvigorate historic downtowns.
